RELiZORB works to hydrolyze available fats prior to ingestion of enteral formula. Here’s how.
How RELiZORB Works to Hydrolyze Available Fats Prior to Ingestion
- Inside the RELiZORB cartridge is the digestive enzyme lipase, which is covalently bound and immobilized to small white beads. This proprietary lipase-bead complex is called iLipase™.
- When enteral formula flows through RELiZORB, the lipase bound to the beads hydrolyzes fats from their triglyceride form, including long-chain triglycerides, one of the most difficult to hydrolyze, to allow for the delivery of absorbable fatty acids and monoglycerides, including the omega-3 fats DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid).
- Fatty acids such as the omega-3 fats DHA and EPA then become available to be absorbed by the patient.
